Importance of undergraduate GPA?

$

Hey guys,

I'm a senior with a 3.67 GPA at a public research university's top 5 undergraduate business program. I realize that an MBA is still a while away for me, but recruiting is going to do some damage to my overall GPA once this semester ends, and I'm wondering how badly that will reflect on my eventual application to business school. I've heard that the average undergraduate GPA for students admitted to the M7 is 3.6, but engineers with lower GPAs, as well as my school's reputation for grade inflation, make me a little uneasy. GPA matters a lot less for MBA programs than gmat score and recommendations, but want to make sure that I'll still be competitive with roughly a 3.6?

Thanks!

92.96 final avg and Was given an A-

UN-FUCKING REAL!

Only missed 1 class the whole semester, sat in the front row and participated more than everybody combined at small non-target (20 students per class about). This has to be a mistake, emailed professor and waiting to hear back.... WTF??!

Average Undergrad GPA

Quick Question: Does rigor of courses matter in undergrad in relation to IB recruitment, at all?

I attend a top 20 college (non/semi-target) where the average graduating gpa is around a 3.18. I'm currently just below the average but have been steadily increasing. I'm wondering if anyone on WSO had any insight on grade distribution and if it plays a role or not, because I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle.

Non-ivy target/semi-target (not sure, some BB's recruit but not all, good number of MM), engineering major, major gpa > 3.5, cumulative gpa < 3.5. Do I meet the gpa cutoff of 3.5 for BB IB because I put my major down? What about MM IB? I have a very good resume other than the GPA

Should I care about GPA still?

Last semester of senior year, job lined up, 3.5 GPA and taking a heavy/difficult courseload. I have little motivation but I know I could bump my GPA up to 3.6 if I tried. Is there any point to maintaining my GPA? I've heard that at some point you stop listing it on your resume anyway. I guess the only purpose it would serve is if I wanted to do an MBA down the line, but I'm unsure whether I want to in the future.

Questions about GPA for MBA applications!

Hi guys, I have two questions regarding undergrad GPA calculation for MBA applications. Would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

1. I took a class out of sequence, and therefore I do not get credit for it. It does not count on my university GPA, BUT my transcript does show the grade. Would schools usually include that grade in my GPA?
2. I did very poorly during my semester abroad in the UK. Equivalent to CS and Ds. On my home university transcript it just shows the courses as pass/fail, but I'm sure the abroad university has the actual grades that I got. How likely is it that I will be asked to produce the actual grades from that semester? And could this be a deal breaker if they see those grades?

College Transfer Resume Question

I'm currently a sophomore at a target school; however, I transferred here from a non-target after my freshman year. My cumulative GPA at the target school is markedly better than my GPA was at the non-target, so I'm unsure of whether to keep my GPA from the other school on the resume. The way I look at it, on the one hand, whoever reads the resume can assume that my GPA was good enough that I was able to transfer to an Ivy. Alternatively, I don't want to look sketchy by not having it. I'm interested to hear what other people think.

Every job says they want someone with high gpa because they have dedication to stay long hours, but hello!!! i did , it just didnt work with me..... How on earth can I get As. I do assignments, and somehow exams are hard... Any help????

The GPA absolute threshold?

Certainly, GPA can be one of the most crucial aspects of a resume and you can certainly spark some interest with great grades. But does it really matter? After talking to many recruiters about this topic, an overwhelming number are in agreement that GPA does matter, but only to an extent. Firms set cut-offs, for example at a 3.5, but once you hit that threshold, they don’t care whether it is a 3.51 or a 4.0. Furthermore, many have stated that grades will get you in the door, but experience and knowledge is the only thing that matters from that point on.

Currently received offer for summer analyst: what to do for full time

Hello guys, I am junior in Penn, majoring in Engineering, with minors in Math.

For this summer, I have secured Equity Derivatives Trading position in Singapore, and I have a question regarding receiving full-time offer.

Well, I am mostly concerned with my gpa; every since coming to this school, my gpa has been constantly going down; I have multiple C in Accounting and some social sciences (psychology), and my overall gpa as of now is 3.1.

Will I get into business school?

I'm currently a junior in college. I accepted a summer analyst offer at a middle market (Jeff/Blair/HLHZ) I am very hopeful it will lead to a FT offer after the summer.

My ultimate goal is to do 2 years of banking, 2 years of private equity and then an MBA. However I will probably finish my undergraduate with a 3.3 GPA at best - I go to a good (top 25) school, but definitely not the type that jumps off the page with prestige. I was extremely lucky to get a spot in banking with my current credentials, but I fear my educational background will still hold me back in the long run.

I was wondering, what is the average accepted GPA to move onto the next round of interviews for a F500 Company (ranking in 300-500) from a top 25 school? Thanks!

Does Summa Matter for B School or PE Recruiting?

$

Up until this semester, I had a GPA that would qualify me for summa cum laude honors (3.95). However, after this semester, my GPA dropped to a 3.92, which does not qualify me for a summa cum laude honors.

I'm a bit worried-does it matter much? I could care less about my GPA dropping .03, but will having magna, not summa cum laude, honors adversely affect me when I apply to B School or apply to a PE firm?

Chances to get into a top MBA depending on the bachelor?

I was wondering if the chances to get into a top MBA program depend only on the grades of your bachelor, or if the prestige of the university you attended during your bachelor also plays a role. Will someone who had a 3.5 GPA at Stanford have better chances to get into Harvard for his MBA than someone who had a 4.0 at the Ohio state university?

Will my GPA break me for my MBA applications?

I am about to start applying for some MBA programs (last year my gmat score will count I believe). I wanted to know based on my credentials how high among schools my background will get me into (or at least a shot). I completely understand if it will get me in nowhere and my resume is worthless. Moreover, will my major GPA play any role in how MBA programs view my grades?

GPA (Non-target School): 3.3
Major: Double Finance(3.2) and Marketing (4.0)
GMAT: 760

Work Experience:
1 year Boutique IB
2 years Independent IB (noting separation due to the size of this IB)

Extras:
Self-taught and proven proficient in French
President of two Student Organizations

MSc GPA, UG GPA or Combined GPA?

Hello all

I was wondering on how i can best spin my GPA on my resume.

I have a Bachelors degree with a GPA of 3.5.
I am currently studying my (2 year) MSc and have a 4.0 GPA, however only with 5 / 9 courses completed.

Should i put them in two seperate bullets?
(University XXX - MSc - 4.0 GPA
University YYY - BSc - 3.5 GPA)

And should i write it as 4.0 GPA/Current GPA/Expected GPA.

Best regards

Low Gpa, What to do now (Rising Sophomore Undergrad)

I'm currently a rising sophomore at a target LAC, and In the past months I became really interested into breaking into IB as a possible career option in the future. Before, I was considering a variety of options in different fields, but they didn't feel right to me. Anyways, as a result of my dabbling and inconsistency in choosing my first year with classes etc, I currently have a 3.0 gpa. Moreover I have not taken any economics classes however, I am enrolled in a macroeconomic theory class in the fall. I don't have any internships lined up this summer, as it was too late by the time I started really looking into this.t I am willing to do whatever it takes to get to where I need to be.
